The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts is the oldest fine arts museum in the state of Alabama. The Museum's magnificent facility provides spacious, light-filled galleries and breathtaking vistas for one of the southeast's premier art resources. Housed within the Museum is the Blount Collection, an outstanding array of 19th and 20th century American paintings. Masterpieces by John Singleton Copley, John Singer Sargent, Edward Hopper, Winslow Homer and others illustrate the development of American painting. Other of the 3,000 works in the permanent collection include some of the finest examples of works on paper by such incomparable 15th through 20th century masters as Durer, Rembrandt, Picasso and Whistler. The museum is rich in works by Southern artists and contains 18th century Worcester Porcelain and 19th century Chinese export wares in the Decorative Arts Gallery. ArtWorks is a hands-on-gallery and art studio for children of all ages. Guests can browse the Museum Shop, study in the Research Library, dine in Cafe M, picnic on landscaped grounds, and view outdoor sculpture.
